Environmental Consciousness & Sustainability

Environmental Consciousness & Sustainability

Environmental consciousness is all about understanding the environment, the impacts of human behaviors on it, and the importance of its protection whereas sustainability refers to adopting good practices, ways & means that can strike a healthy balance between human subsistence and mother nature.

“Conservation is a state of harmony between men and land.”
– Aldo Leopold (1887-1948).

So, it is the necessity and responsibility of humankind to respect, protect, and preserve natural resources from being afflicted by human misconduct. Understanding the implications of Environmental awareness and sustainability, Integral University puts good efforts to sensitize its people about the environment and adopts the due course of action to address and cope-up with issues- Green Initiatives, Environment Conservation, Energy Conservation, Water and Waste management. Well-documented policies are there which put greater emphasis on the protection and conservation of the environment & natural resources.

Management Of The Degradable And Non-Degradable Waste

Solid Waste Management: – Pollution from waste is aesthetically unpleasant and results in a large amount of litter. Solid Wastes, which may cause severe health problems, can be categorized into three types, Biodegradable, Non-Biodegradable, Hazard Waste.

Biodegradable waste includes food waste, canteen waste and waste from toilets etc.

Non-Biodegradable waste includes plastic, tin, glass, bottle etc. and Hazard waste that is likely to be a threat to the health of the environment like, cleaning chemical and different laboratory related Chemical Products.

Each and every department of Sandip Institute of Engineering & Management, Nashik dumps waste in small waste-bins located in the department. The dustbins are then vacated and provided to the Municipal Corporation for further processing

The Bio-degradable wastes are effectively converted to fertilizer by composting inside the college campus. The rose garden in the campus is created using biodegradable waste compost.

Liquid Waste Management: – The liquid wastes are mainly drained to improve the ground level of water. Liquid Waste is generated from the Science laboratories like Chemistry and Canteen. The liquid waste generated by the college are of two types : 1. Sewage Waste 2. Laboratory and Canteen effluent. The treatment facility receives effluent from the water closets. The Sewage Treatment facility receives the output slurry discharge (STP). IT is treated to create water suitable for gardening and dousing cricket fields. The solid sediments are collected and turned into manure.

E-Waste Management: – The Institute has a very efficient mechanism to dispose of E-waste generated from various sources. The E-waste is generated from Computer Lab, Science laboratories & academic and administrative offices. The E-waste includes out of order equipment or obsolete items like lab instruments, circuits, desktop, laptop and accessories, printers, charging and network cable, Wi-Fi devices, sound system, display unit, UPS, Biometric Machine, Scientific Instruments etc. All these wastes are put to optimal use. All such equipment which cannot be reused or recycled are being stored in a place for later disposal   To collect e-waste from the campus and surrounding areas, the college has an agreement in place with Green Sustain waste management organization. Certified agencies treat the collected e waste.

Water and Energy Conservation

The goal of water conservation is to protect, manage, and guarantee the growth of all forms of clean water resources (groundwater and surface water). It also covers the avoidance of pollution that taints and mistreats water supplies. It emphasizes every approach, plan, and policy that claims to manage consumable water resources fairly. Complete College takes all necessary precautions to manage water usage and avoid water waste around the campus, as they recognize the critical role that water conservation has in the environment. The university continues to take the initiative to place efforts to conserve water resources as much as possible in order to fulfill the ever-increasing demand for water, both now and in the future.
